The Historic Villages of Shirakawa-gō and Gokayama are one of Japan’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Its numerous gassho-zukuri houses, some 100 large and small, where people still live and work.
The water is so clean that rainbow trout were swimming in it.
I was there when they were repairing the roofs of the gassho-zukuri.
It provides a living environment that is cool in summer and warm in winter.
